Eggs

Colored eggs, that is. It's been many, many years since we dyed eggs at our house. We're pretty sure that Daniel and never done it before, so we spent Saturday morning coloring eggs.

We started out with some solid colored eggs. One of the kits we got was for tie-dye eggs, which we did next. They turned out really neat!

I went a grabbed a box of crayons and we all started drawing on them. Yep, mine is a Disney Cruise ship.

Monday Randomness

Photobucket
{a self-portrait from the other day}

It's already February 6th, my how January just flew by! I've been keeping busy doing quite a bit crafting, particulary sewing. Some of my latest project are a bucket hat and a stuffed cat. The cat turned out kinda funny looking, but it's not too bad, considering it was the first stuffed animal I've made. I've also been having fun making desktop backgrounds for my computer. My latest creations is a Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers one and one inspired by the song Blue Skies by Ella Fitzgerald.

It's been unusually warm around here lately. The last several days the sky has been clear and blue and the temperatures have been getting into the high fifties. I wonder if it will stay or if the winter weather will be coming back...

Yesterday I turned a purse into a camera bag by adding foam that I covered in fabric to add some protection inside. After months of searching for the perfect purse, I finally found one, and I can't wait to use in on our cruise we're going on at the end of the month.

Saturday I tweaked the blog design a bit. I replaced all the green with blue, which I think fits me a bit more. There are also new images in the header and made several social media icons which are on the sidebar. I also created a Google+ Page as well, which I've been having fun playing around with.

Carving and Painting

For the last few years, instead of carving my pumpkin, I've painted it instead. I enjoy painting them more, and I like all the color it adds. Usually the rest of my siblings carve their's, but this year Alina and my mom painted their's as well.

Alina drew about a dozen or so faces on a piece of paper before deciding on this silly face.

Tiana chose to carve like usual, and picked out a horse and rider pattern that she found online.

My mom painted her's and used a picture of goofy that she traced onto the pumpkin before painting.

Daniel came up with a dead pumpkin face.

I'm a big Muppets fan, so I decided to paint Kermit the Frog this year. I traced him freehand on the pumpkin before painting him.

Project 52: Week 43

{43/52}

We didn't end up carving and painting our pumpkins till the 31st. All of us kids and my mom had a fun time choosing what to make and painting or carving them. I'll be posting more about them this week.

Project 52: Week 40

{40/52}

Lately I've been busy working on my first quilt. I have already cut and sewed together all of the rows for the top and now I need to to the basting (pinning the back, batting, and top pieces together), so I can start the quilting part.

I like how the measuring tape that I was using was spiraling out.

This week I made this embroidered cuckoo clock. The pattern is from the book Doodle Stitiching: The Motif Collection that I borrowed from the library (and am hoping to buy!). I love how it turned out and I can't wait to make another project from the book.

I Heart Faces - Paper

It's been a while since I've entered in an I Heart Faces challenge, but when I saw this weeks theme, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. Last summer I got into origami a bit. I got several books from the library, and made   hearts, fish, sailboats, dogs, hats, bows, cute dresses, birds, and penguins. I also made some cute little butterflies, which are one of my personal favorites. So, I used an origami butterfly as a prop, and my sister as the model. Here's how it turned out:

Sewing Away...

I've been in a sewing mood latley. It started a couple of weeks ago when I made my first skirt. I then made a reversible headband, and yesterday I finished a half-apron, that I created my own pattern for. I also made a ruffled camera strap for my dSLR, which I love!

I had seen several tutorials on different blogs to make them, but I really liked Amanda's ruffled strap.The tutorial (found here), was really easy to follow, with step by step instructions with pictures. That makes it really simple!

I only did one ruffle, since these where the only two fabrics I had. It's really comfortable around my neck, and it looks cute as well!
