Christmas-ness

I don't know about you, but I've been having quite a fun time taking all sorts of Christmas-y photos. Especially ones with Christmas lights/bokeh. By the time the month is over, I'm going to have so many random Christmas related pictures.

I had some fun the other day taking picture of our tree while zooming in or out with the lens and a slower shutter speed. It's very entertaining.

Then there's all those decorations that I set up in front of the tree, so I can get some nice bokeh in the background. I love Christmas.

Christmas Light Bokeh

Now that we got our Christmas decorations and lights out, I thought I would play around with taking portraits with Christmas lights bokeh.

I set two bar stools at the top of our stairs and draped a tablecloth then Christmas lights from them. I placed Daniel a few feet from the background and use my widest aperture (f/1.8) to get the nice bokeh. For the lighting, I opened up the front door, which lets lots of natural light on the staircase.

There's a park nearby that has a big, grassy hill. The hill is covered with patches of little, white daises.

There's nothing more winter-y than a snowman. They happen to be my mom's favorite, so this time of year we have lots of snowman decorations around.


I really don't know why this guy is wearing a sweater and hat. He's going to melt really fast... ;-)

Aspire Photo Challenge: Christmas

Hannah over at Aspire is hosting a photography challenge, the theme being Christmas. Since everyone seemed to love my snow globe photo, I decided on that one. I'm quite pleased with it as well.

Christmas Time is Here!

Today is December 1st, and Christmas time is here! I love this time of year, with all the cold classes of egg nog, classic Christmas tunes playing on the stereo, and eating candy canes. I love curling up on the couch and watching my favorite Christmas movies. White Christmas is one of my favorites, and I look forward to watching many others, including the Santa Clause series and Holiday Inn. I love drinking steaming hot cups of cocoa. I love all the twinkling lights everyone puts up. It's such a wonderful time of year.

I love the snow we got here, even if it was only about an inch. Every time I look outside, everything is all white and pretty. It's been a bit colder here than usual as well, as it got down to 11°F last night. Brrrr! But with the snow, it's worth it. :)

Mr. Scarecrow

This guy gets pulled out every autumn along with our other fall decorations. He's a pretty little fella, at a little under a foot tall. He's always very cooperative when I want to take his photo. (I took several of him last year with my point-and-shoot). He never complains and always has a smile on his face, making him a wonderful photography subject.

Carlotta is having a photo challenge, the theme being color. I thought I'd enter this photo, with all the warm and golden tones that I love.

I Love Black and White

I love this picture. I've had it sitting on my hard drive for a couple of months, and have been wanting to share it. But it never made it into one of my posts, until now.

Hannah at Aspire is having a photo challenge. The theme is Black and White Portraits. I hadn't tried this photo in black and white, but when I saw the theme, I knew exactly what photo to use.

Lovely Photo Wednesday - Raindrops on Roses

Why hey there, everyone! It's felt like forever since I posted. If you didn't know, I've been having some computer problems. I have a new motherboard coming and should be posting normal again real soon! For now, I'm going to link up to Hannah's Lovely Photo Wednesday.

You may remember this shot from about a month ago. I posted it with some other raindrop photos, and everyone seemed to enjoy them. This shot of the rose seemed to be a favorite, so I though this would be a good one. I did have some trouble choosing between this one, and another rose shot.
